Will my new car effect unemployment and temporary assistance?

I am going to be laid off in a few months (state cutbacks) and a couple ppl at my job have been saying they'll just collect unemployment for a few months when the time comes. I think I'd like to try that, and then get assistance with food stamps heap and medicaid for at least a month or two. However I am planning on financing a new (new but used) car abt a month before my position ends. Will this effect my unemployment or my assistance from social services? Will they tell me I won't be eligible b/c I had a car? What if I claim I didn't know I was going to be laid off and got the new car and can't return it b/c of all the money I put down/will effect my credit. Btw, I will be looking for jobs in the meantime but I could really use a short break from working since I go to school f/t as well and am beat! Thanks!
