Does an RAF Officer being made redundant have to resign his commission?

A young Officer in the Royal Air Force has been made redundant because of the cutbacks and not offered another position within the service. All cadet training had been completed, and they hold the rank of Flying Officer. Does he, or she, have to resign their Commission, they had signed on for 25 years service, and had done nothing to discredit their reputation, were just one of the unlucky ones who can no longer serve their country.
